Why have we created a new Community Town Hall building proposal?

Our community does not currently have a Town Hall. That’s why we have created a new proposal to build a Community Town Hall. Our town staff members have been serving our community from repurposed structures. Here are photographs of the temporary Town Hall site we have used for the last eight years, which has consisted of one bay at the Highway Maintenance Department and a double-wide trailer behind that bay.

This temporary site at the Highway Department has several drawbacks.

  • Costly repairs and construction needed
  • Double-wide must be replaced by a new, up-to-code building
  • Unacceptable septic system
  • Uses land needed by the Highway Department
  • Requires Modifications to Highway Garage truck bay
  • Damaged Roof
  • Insufficient access for our disabled and elderly neighbors
  • Parking issues

A “yes” vote in favor of the Community Town Hall proposal on November 6th would provide our town with a modest, one-story building from which our staff can continue to serve you. It would also provide community members with appropriate privacy when conducting business with the town as well as a professional, accessible building that would be much more welcoming for both our community members and visitors to West Bloomfield. This new Community Town Hall would offer many benefits.

  • Ease of access for everyone, particularly for our elderly and disabled neighbors.
  • An available meeting room for community events
  • A bathroom for Prouty Park patrons
  • An information location for visitors to West Bloomfield, the Gateway to Ontario County
  • A new building site: a town-owned, two-acre lot
  • A public parking area
  • An energy-efficient, zoned heating and cooling system

The Community Town Hall building proposal vote takes place on November 6th. The decision is in your hands. We hope that you will join us for one or more of our informational meetings before then. For more information on these meetings, click on the Meetings tab. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to let us know using the “Contact Us” form on our homepage. We believe a new Community Town Hall is the right choice for West Bloomfield, and we hope you will, too.

Vote Tuesday, November 6th, 2018  8am-9pm

The vote on the proposal for a new Town Hall building will take place on Tuesday, November 6th, 2018. While the building of a new structure would be the Town Board’s first choice, we look forward to discussing this proposal to ensure that all voices are heard and a decision is made that is best for the community.
